Pulso Ambiental No. 26 “A new world: the emergence of artificial intelligence”
The State enthusiastically announces the implementation of artificial intelligence, but keeps confidential what types of software programs it hires and how they were trained. In this interview, Margarita Trovato from Fundación Vía Libre describes the obstacles faced when inquiring about the official use of this technology and, above all, what happens to our personal data.
In the interview conducted by FARN and published in the special edition of the magazine, Margarita highlighted that it is currently very complex to know what technologies the State is using for citizen surveillance, given the secrecy surrounding procurement and contracting, as well as the lack of accountability regarding what technologies the State uses and how they function.
From facial recognition devices, biometric identification, and cyber-patrolling, to the retention of all types of data and their unification into large databases from which information can be cross-referenced and inferred. The news released by the Ministry of Human Capital regarding the “Gemelo Digital Social” (Social Digital Twin) program is an excellent example: it announces the creation of a simulation of the Argentine population based on the personal data collected by that ministry, without providing explanations about the use of the data, its protection, the way in which these simulations will be conducted, or the companies that will be involved in the process. Surveillance over society is total.
