- Side event: “Strengthening the Human Rights Framework in AI Governance”
February 24 – 8:30 AM (Taiwan)Luciana Benotti and Beatriz Busaniche will take part in the RightsCon Summit, where this workshop will be held, organized by Access Now, AI Collaborative, RightsCon, and the Government of France.
The human rights framework is increasingly being sidelined in discussions on AI governance, despite the negative impacts of certain technologies on rights such as freedom of expression, privacy, and the right to life. The AI Action Summit, organized by France, prioritized the public interest, emphasizing the need to refocus AI governance around human rights. Governance efforts must be centered on democratic principles, transparency, and accountability, ensuring public participation while preventing technological abuse. Following the summit, a roundtable will be held at RightsCon to define next steps and establish a meaningful role for civil society in AI governance.
