From September 8 to 11, Luciana Benotti and Marcos Javier Gómez will participate in UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.
UNESCO will bring together ministers of education, high-level experts, tech industry representatives, educators, and students from around the world in Paris to discuss the latest developments and perspectives in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and education. The event will mark the adoption of a joint ministerial declaration on how to sustain education as a common good in the age of AI.
Luciana Benotti will be part of the plenary session on Tuesday, September 8, starting at 16:30 (local time*) titled “Sustaining Education as a common good in the age of AI: Towards deliberative governance” a Pecha Kucha-style launch of UNESCO’s compilation of policy briefs on AI and education. The session will be moderated by Shafika Isaacs, Director a.i. of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education and Chief of the Section for Technology and AI in Education, Future of Learning and Innovation Division, UNESCO. The panel will feature: Lidija Kralj, Education Analyst at EduConLK, Croatia; Kalervo N. Gulson, Professor of Education Policy at the University of Sydney, Australia; Keith Krueger, CEO of The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), United States; and Luciana Benotti, Associate Professor in Computer Science at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina, and member of Fundación Vía Libre.

Marcos Javier Gómez will lead training session No. 9 titled “Opening the AI black box: Regional bias, corporate control and sovereign infrastructure” in Room VII from 11:30 to 13:00 (local time*).

Under the theme Education in the age of AI: Facts | Frictions | Frontiers, Digital Learning Week 2026 will examine what counts as fact in an age of synthetic knowledge, how to navigate the frictions AI is generating across education systems, and what new frontiers are emerging, from public interest AI and digital sovereignty to analogue and community-led approaches. The event will support collective sense-making and action to ensure that human agency, equity and the public purpose of education remain at the centre of education futures.
This year’s program will focus on three main strands: what counts as a fact in an era of synthetic knowledge, the frictions that AI is creating in educational systems, and the emerging frontiers, from public-interest AI and digital sovereignty to analog and community-led approaches.
More than 25 ministers gathered at UNESCO will adopt a joint declaration on how to sustain education as a common good in the age of AI.
