From November 7 to 9, we took part in the 15th Mozilla Festival in Barcelona — the main gathering for people working to build a better digital world.
On November 8, Beatriz Busaniche and Marcos Javier Gómez represented our project “Community-Based Collection of Linguistic Resources for Bias Evaluation in Language Technologies”, which received the audience’s top-voted award for the most impactful project!
This initiative, part of Vía Libre’s AI program, is supported by the Mozilla Incubator and builds on the experiences of the HESEIA 2024 and EDIA courses, creating resources for active and informed digital citizenship. It involves communities directly in the collection of datasets, and in the identification of biases, stereotypes, cultural expressions, and hallucinations in language models. The project team includes Luciana Benotti (project lead), Emilia Echeveste, Marcos Gómez, Guido Ivetta, Nair Carolina Mazzeo, Sofía Martinelli, Pietro Palombini, and Lourdes Aguiar.
Continuing with the presentations, Vía Libre’s president, Beatriz Busaniche, took part in the panel “Igwebuike: Unity Is Strength,” which explored community-led solutions from the Global South.
The Mozilla Festival brought together more than 2,000 participants and featured over 200 experiences designed to inspire action. It was a space for bold conversations, powerful ideas, and a shared movement toward a better Internet.
