In the framework of the forty-sixth session of the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR/46), we invite you to the Side Event ‘PROMOTING AI FOR GOOD IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH: Copyright Policies for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Latin America and Africa’.
The event will take place on 7 April from 6.30 to 7.30 (Geneva time) and is organised by Fundación Vía Libre (on behalf of the A2K Alliance for Latin America) and ReCreate South Africa.
The session will provide case studies on copyright challenges related to data collection for research purposes in African and Latin American AI projects, in order to:
- Promote the development of AI in the region and encourage local research.
- Demonstrate the advantages of copyright exceptions for computational analysis activities and the need for legal certainty to carry out these activities in the Global South.
