On Wednesday 3 June from 4.30 pm, together with CELS, DER and ODIA, we will be organising the Regional Roundtable “STATE SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGIES, DEMOCRATIC CONTROL AND THE PROTECTION OF CIVIC SPACE IN LATIN AMERICA” at the offices of the Heinrich Böll Foundation (Lavalle 462, 2nd floor, Buenos Aires).
This panel will offer a regional and comparative perspective on the advancement of state surveillance technologies in Latin America. With the participation of specialists from the region, the event aims to identify the most concerning trends, analyse the political contexts in which these tools are deployed, and share strategies for research and resistance from civil society.
The discussion will be organised into two rounds: the first aimed at mapping the regional landscape—what is happening, where, and under what conditions; the second focused on how the issue is being researched and which forms of advocacy are proving most effective.
Speakers: Lucía León (Hiperderecho), Paul Aguilar (Social Tic) and Luis Fernando García (Citizen Lab).
Moderator: Bea Busaniche (Vía Libre)
The event is free of charge and requires prior registration at https://cryptpad.fr/form/#/3/form/view/307619656396f86b156c2312d7788870/
There will be a live stream on the Fundación Vía Libre YouTube channel
