Luciana Benotti, Guido Ivetta and Sofia Martinelli will take part in the Second South American School of NLP, which will take place on 3 and 4 August 2026 at the University Campus, Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires.
On Monday 3 August, from 2.00 pm, they will be holding the in-person workshop ‘Sociocultural evaluation of language models’, a theoretical and practical workshop that addresses the evaluation of social biases, stereotypes and the use of typical local expressions in language models. They will examine how language models associate attributes with different identities. They will analyse the data collected during the session itself, test empirical evaluation experiments and explore how the models respond to phrases typical of our region, investigating whether these linguistic and cultural particularities become a source of hallucinations.

About the South American School of NLP
This initiative aims to strengthen the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Latin America by creating opportunities for interaction, learning, and collaboration in a region where in-person exchange opportunities are often limited. Its goal is to bring together students, researchers, and professionals from different countries to foster regional connections, facilitate the exchange of ideas, and support collaborative work in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and related fields.
This two-day regional NLP course, organized right after ECI 2026, is a joint initiative of the Computer Science Research Institute (ICC, CONICET–University of Buenos Aires), Argentina; the Natural Language Processing Group of the Computer Science Institute (Faculty of Engineering, University of the Republic), Uruguay; and the Natural Language Processing Group of the Faculty of Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics, and Computing (National University of Córdoba), Argentina.
