On October 9 and 10, 2025, the international seminar “Artificial Intelligence and the Justice System in Latin America: Lessons Learned and Pathways to Guaranteeing Rights” will take place at the Resistance Memorial Meeting in São Paulo.
The event is organized by the General Ombudsman’s Office of the Public Defender’s Office of the State of São Paulo and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), with the support of the Public Defender School (EDEPE). It will bring together representatives from the justice system, researchers, civil society organizations, and human rights bodies to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of using artificial intelligence in the region.
Over the two days, panels, roundtables, and open dialogue sessions will cover topics such as access to justice, due process, legal frameworks, public policy, transparency, and citizen participation.
Within this framework, on October 10, Beatriz Busaniche, President of Fundación Vía Libre, will participate as a speaker in the session “Transparency: Approaches, Gaps, and Concrete Openness Initiatives”, which will bring together experts from Latin America and other countries. This session will be dedicated to discussing approaches, gaps, and practical experiences in promoting openness in the use of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the challenges of transparency in the public sector.
