On February 7, Luciana Benotti will be a speaker at the seminar “Assessing Social Bias in AI: Perspectives from Collaborative Grounding”, which will take place at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and will also be available online.

This talk will address the challenges of assessing and mitigating social bias in artificial intelligence. It will focus on the collaborative grounding approach, a framework based on human communication that emphasizes shared meaning construction and negotiation between interlocutors. Applying this framework to human-AI interaction provides valuable insights for identifying subtle biases. Analyzing the communicative dynamics and negotiation processes between humans and AI systems contributes to detecting biases that may go unnoticed using traditional evaluation methods. Additionally, preliminary findings will be presented from a training program involving 300 teachers exploring biases in large language models in high schools, demonstrating how this approach can be applied in a real-world educational setting.
