On September 2, Enrique Chaparro will represent Fundación Vía Libre at the event “Advancing AI Safety in Latin America: Learning from Local Experiences”, held at the British Embassy in Mexico City.
The event is organized by the Secretariat of the International AI Safety Report of the UK’s AI Safety Institute (AISI) and Eon Institute.
This regional meeting will bring together up to 30 decision-makers, researchers, and key stakeholders from the strategic ecosystem to reflect on the findings of the 2025 International AI Safety Report, led by Yoshua Bengio, and to explore their particular relevance for Latin America.
The 2025 International AI Safety Report, spearheaded by Yoshua Bengio and prepared with the support of a diverse group of 100 experts and an international advisory committee, is the first comprehensive scientific synthesis on the risks and capabilities of general-purpose AI systems. Rather than making policy recommendations, the report compiles scientific evidence on what general-purpose AI can do, the risks involved, and the techniques available to mitigate them. Its goal is to strengthen a shared international understanding, provide solid input for informed policymaking, and foster constructive, evidence-based debate on advanced AI safety.
