Fundación Vía Libre will participate in the next Latin American Free Software Installation Festival (FLISOL) in Córdoba. Flisol Cordoba 2025 will take place on April 26th at the Economic Sciences Library of the National University of Cordoba (UNC). There will be activities throughout the day, fair, talks and workshops.
Enrique Chaparro and Matias Bordone, both from Fundacion Via Libre, will participate in the following talks:
Producing free machine learning systems? A difficult but not impossible path
10.00 hs | Speakers: Enrique Chaparro
Many of the concepts we use to define ‘free’ in the field of software with deterministic results are difficult to apply to stochastic results. We face very critical problems in producing free machine learning systems. We will try to explore the possible ways and illustrate this by developing an example.
AI on your PC: Sovereignty and local fun without the hassle!
14.00 hs | Speakers: Matias Bordone
Can you imagine having artificial intelligence running on your own computer? In this 45-minute talk, we will explore how to use open source models to solve everyday problems, without relying on cloud services. From text and content generation, to transcription, image creation, audio (including voice cloning) and video, we will show in a practical and humorous way how everyone, regardless of whether they are technical or not, can take advantage of these tools. Programmers and the curious alike will be able to take away useful ideas and understand, in detail, the workings behind the magic.
My 30 years with Free Software, or how to turn a success into a failure
16.00 hs | Speakers: Enrique Chaparro
I have been using Free Software for 30 years and promoting its adoption. A lot of water has flowed since then. We will review what happened from the initial enthusiasm to the current disappointment, where everybody is using FOSS but the power relations have not changed.
