Iberamia’2024, the 18th Ibero-American Conference on Artificial Intelligence, will be held in Montevideo (Uruguay) from November 13-15, 2024, organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad de la República.

Luciana Benotti will participate in the conference and will give the opening keynote entitled “Assessing social bias in AI: Who decides how language models discriminate?” on Wednesday, November 13 from 11 am in the Assembly Hall “Ing. y Agr. Enrique de Martini” (Central Body, floor 1).

In addition, within the framework of this event, the South American NLP School will be held on November 12, with the participation of Laura Alonso Alemany as organizer and speaker. This regional school of NLP (co-located with Iberamia 2024) is a joint effort between the Natural Language Processing Group at Instituto de Computación (Facultad de Ingeniería, Universidad de la República), Uruguay; the Instituto de Investigación de Ciencias de la Computación (ICC) at Universidad de Buenos Aires, and CONICET, Argentina; and the Natural Language Processing Group at Facultad de Matemática, Astronomía, Física y Computación (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba), Argentina. It will feature lectures by NLP researchers, posters and social sessions. The planned duration is between 6 and 8 hours, and it will be structured as a series of lectures/presentations on different topics, for example:

  • NLP for underrepresented languages
  • BioNLP
  • Sentiment and opinion analysis
  • Hate speech detection and counter-speech generation
  • Use of NLP tools for Education
