On Friday, May 9, from 2 to 6 p.m., the discussion “What’s Going On with AI in Science?” will take place—a training initiative aimed at high school teachers, with a focus on Biology education.
The event will be held in Classroom 302 at the Faculty of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of the National University of Córdoba (central campus). It is in-person, free of charge, and has limited capacity (40 participants).

The activity will be coordinated by Emilia Echeveste, together with Lourdes Aguiar Cau. During the discussion, participants will explore the impacts of artificial intelligence on scientific knowledge production and educational processes. The concept of algorithmic objectivity will be critically examined, cases where AI reinforces bias will be reviewed, and teaching approaches will be proposed from an intersectional and decolonial perspective. Concepts such as situated knowledge, data extractivism, and informed consent will also be explored, based on concrete experiences in Biology education.

This activity is part of the ongoing work that in 2024 included the HESEIA course—a teacher training initiative across different knowledge areas, promoting a critical, situated, and accessible approach to generative AI. As Constanza Chock (2022) argues, algorithmic design often remains in the hands of a few, and its evaluation requires technical expertise. From Vía Libre, we aim to bring these debates into classrooms from a transformative pedagogical perspective.
